Behavioral Supports is the third course in the paraeducator series. Although not required, it is recommended participants complete Foundations and Instructional Supports courses first. Further details about the paraeducator certification are located below the summary.
In course 3, Behavioral Supports, paraeducators will learn about behavioral and emotional issues presented in classrooms today. The course also explores strategies for developing professional relationships with students and school personnel via virtual "face-to-face" sessions. The remainder of the course will be completed online. Attendance during the virtual "face-to-face" portions is required, and all work must be completed. An estimated 3.5 hours per week will be spent to complete the course in 9 weeks. Once all three classes in the generalist program are completed or during this course, participants must also complete a 10-hour practical experience in the classroom setting and two on-site observations by a mentor and AEA employee.
